TFG Spotlight: Scott McGhie, CFA

September 26, 2025

For Scott McGhie, a career in wealth management has always been about balancing numbers with people. As Director of Portfolio Management and Senior Investment Manager, he combines technical skill, careful analysis, and a client-first philosophy that has guided him through more than two decades in the financial industry.

“I’ve always been drawn to solving complex problems,” Scott reflects. “But what I enjoy most is helping clients feel confident about their financial future.”

A Foundation in Finance and Analysis

Scott’s journey began in accounting, where he earned his CPA license and built a strong foundation in Ernst & Young’s Assurance & Advisory practice, gaining early experience in financial analysis and corporate finance. While he no longer maintains an active CPA designation, that analytical foundation shaped how he approaches investment management today—with discipline, precision, and an eye for detail.

After transitioning into portfolio management, Scott discovered a passion for building long-term client relationships. That pivot brought him to The Fiduciary Group, where he now leads the firm’s Portfolio Management Team and plays a central role in overseeing investment strategies for individuals, families, and institutions.

Leading with a Fiduciary Mindset

As with all advisors at TFG, Scott’s work is guided by the fiduciary standard: a legal and ethical obligation to put clients’ best interests first. He emphasizes that the role goes far beyond simply managing portfolios—it’s about education, transparency, and trust.

“Clients count on us to simplify what can be an overwhelming process,” Scott explains. “It’s about making sure they understand not only what we’re recommending, but why it fits their goals.”

Building Portfolios for the Long Term

In his leadership role, Scott helps ensure that TFG’s portfolios are diversified, risk-aware, and built with discipline. He and the team carefully evaluate both opportunities and risks, balancing growth with downside protection.

Rather than chasing short-term market movements, Scott focuses on the bigger picture: aligning investment strategies with the unique needs of each client. His work reflects a philosophy of consistency, patience, and long-term value creation.

Collaboration and Teamwork

Scott underscores the importance of collaboration—both inside the firm and with outside professionals like estate attorneys and CPAs. He believes the best outcomes come from an integrated approach to wealth management, where everyone is aligned around the client’s goals.

“No one advisor has all the answers,” he says. “Bringing different perspectives together ensures we’re covering every angle for the families we serve.”

Commitment Beyond the Office

In addition to his professional responsibilities, Scott has been active in his community and remains committed to serving others. He views his role as not just about numbers on a page, but about creating meaningful, lasting impact for clients and their families.

Looking Ahead

As financial markets continue to evolve, Scott remains focused on what has always mattered most: trust, consistency, and the client relationship. His analytical background, combined with more than 15 years of portfolio management experience, positions him to guide clients through both opportunities and challenges ahead.

At The Fiduciary Group, Scott embodies the values of integrity, collaboration, and client-first service—helping clients navigate complexity with clarity and confidence.
